In general, JHEV ATM has been tasked as the Registrar Body for applications for the registration of Veteran Associations since 2016.
Under Section 7, Act 740 – Veterans Act 2012, the Director General of JHEV ATM shall be the Registrar for Veteran Associations.
Veteran Association’ as defined by Act 740 means any organization, institution, association, club, or body registered under Act 740 whose membership consists of at least fifty percent of former members of the Malaysian Armed Forces or Commonwealth Forces who have served in Malaysia. In short, any association intending to carry out any veteran activities must apply to the Registrar for registration under Act 740 in the prescribed manner and form.
A Veteran Association must be established for the purpose of promoting the welfare of ATM Veterans and is subject to all decisions and directives from the Registrar based on Act 740. Veteran Associations are categorized into two categories: Parent and Branch.
To date, there are 146 Parent Veteran Associations and 346 Branch Veteran Associations registered under Act 740.
