The Armed Forces Veterans Act 2012 (Act 740) was gazetted on October 7, 2015, and came into effect on October 15, 2015.

This Act represents the first effort to legislate matters concerning Armed Forces Veterans and related issues.

Under this Act, the registration of veteran associations and veterans falls under the responsibility of the Department of Veterans Affairs (JHEV) of the Malaysian Armed Forces. This registration includes the following categories:

  • Registration of veteran associations already registered with JPMM/ROS.

    Veteran associations previously registered under the Societies Act 1966 (Jabatan Pendaftaran Pertubuhan Malaysia - JPMM/ROS) ceased to be registered under the Societies Act 1966 and These associations were required, within three months (from October 15, 2015, to January 15, 2016), to apply to the Registrar (Director-General of JHEV) to be registered under this Act as veteran associations to conduct veteran-related activities.

  • Veteran registration

    Veterans discharged after the enforcement of this Act must register with the JHEV Headquarters. However, those discharged before the Act's enforcement are deemed registered as veterans. Upon registration, a Veteran Card will be issued to eligible individuals who meet the specified conditions.

  • Formation of veteran associations

    Applications for the registration of veteran associations will be processed based on current requirements and received applications.
